ADOPT resolution recognizing May 2024 as Older Americans Month as recommended by Supervisor Diane Burgis.

IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING MAY 2024 AS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
WHEREAS, the 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being; and
WHEREAS, a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our communities; and
WHEREAS, we connect older adults with local services, such as transportation, that can help them overcome obstacles to achieving or maintaining meaningful relationships; and
WHEREAS, promoting resources that help older adults engage, like community events, social clubs, and volunteer opportunities; and
WHEREAS, sharing facts about the mental, physical, and emotional health benefits of social connection and how it contributes to overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, we inspire older adults to share what connection means to them on social media using the hashtag #PoweredByConnection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognize May 2024 as Older Americans Month.
