RECOMMENDATIONS:

ACCEPT resignations of Mimi Medalle and Sadhika Pendyala, DECLARE vacant At-Large 1 and At-Large 6 seats for terms ending June 30, 2026 and June 30, 2025 on the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board; and

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact for this action.

BACKGROUND:

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board’s mission is to identify needs in the community with regards to substance use prevention or treatment. The findings and recommendations are provided to the Board of Supervisors, the Health Services Department, Behavioral Health Division and the Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS) Administration. The Board is comprised of five supervisorial district seats, six At-Large Member Seats and three At-Large Alternate Seats.

Mimi Medalle, a resident of Walnut Creek submitted a verbal resignation due to changes in employment conditions that prevent her from attending Board meetings in person. The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board respectfully recommends to apply the policy for vacating At-Large 1 seat currently occupied by Mimi Medalle, which expires June 30, 2026 to allow staff to initiate outreach and recruitment.

Sadhika Pendyala vacated her seat as she exceeded the maximum number of allowable missed meetings by the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board Bylaws. At-Large 6 seat expires June 30, 2025.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The seats will remain occupied until vacated and this will potentially make it more difficult to achieve a quorum and lessen the viewpoint of communities impacted by substance use issues in the community.
