Report Title:                     Donation of Fire Rescue Equipment from the Martinez Refining Company

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, to accept a donation of fire rescue equipment from the Martinez Refining Company, valued at approximately $16,236, for distribution to the Fire District rescue resource nearest to the Martinez Refining Company refining facility.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The $16,236 value of the fire rescue equipment will be cost savings for the Fire District. No District match is required.

BACKGROUND:

The Fire District is currently assessing and updating its rescue equipment inventory to replace aging resources. To align with other County rescue agencies that have transitioned to a new, improved type of equipment, the Fire District has decided to adopt this updated equipment model. This will enhance County-wide interoperability and improve the efficiency of the District’s operations.

To support this transition, the Martinez Refining Company (MRC) has generously agreed to donate a collection of fire rescue equipment, including rescue rope and associated hardware friction devices, valued at approximately $16,236. This donation is specifically intended for use by the Fire District rescue team closest to the MRC facility.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If not approved, the Fire District will need to purchase the otherwise donated equipment at an estimated cost of $16,236 to the District budget.
