Marine Patrol’s primary mission is to promote boating safety through public education and
enforcement. In addition to vessel safety inspections and boating enforcement, we are
responsible for investigating any crimes that occur on the water. All Marine Patrol personnel are
Deputy Sheriffs, and each of us has worked regular street patrol at some point in our careers,
which allows us to handle both boating-related enforcement and traditional law enforcement
incidents in the marine environment.
Our responsibilities also include addressing derelict or abandoned vessels, coordinating with
allied agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard, and assisting with multi-jurisdictional events,
including events such as Fleet Week.
Over the holiday weekend, 11 sworn officers worked Marine Patrol operations.
