12:40 SMAC Events Discussion – Candace & Bryan
> SMAC Senior Transportation Workshop
- Candace and Bryan reviewed the SMAC Workshop Itinerary. The program will begin with
remarks from public officials, followed by the Resource Workshop. SMAC Members were
encouraged to participate in the welcoming remarks, and the group agreed that doors should open
earlier to allow for a welcoming period before activities begin.
- SMAC discussed adding a technology element to the Resource Workshop. While iPads
cannot be provided, Bryan suggested setting up a technical assistance booth with volunteers to
support older adults.
- Vendor logistics still need clarification, including set-up, load-in/out, number of vendors,
and tables.
- Distribution of holiday boxes raised concerns about crowding, egress, and temperature-safe
storage. Items include turkeys, chickens, hens, and eggs, which require coolers and will be heavy
to carry. Boxes will be distributed at the end of the event and attendees will need to be informed
to bring their own bags.
- Candace and Bryan will solicit volunteers during the SMAC Update at the next ACOA
General Meeting.

1:05 SMAC Draft Annual Report
- Candace and Bryan presented the draft Annual Report. The group clarified the distinction
between roster members (who count toward quorum) and participants (who may attend but do
not affect quorum) and SMAC’s current participants.
- Accomplishments and advocacy efforts were reviewed, along with discussion on the
COVID-19 impact survey. AAA will print out surveys and bring prepaid envelopes to distribute
at the November Transportation Workshop.
- The group agreed on 2026 goals, which include hosting three informational workshops (in
Lafayette, maybe Concord, and Antioch). Collaboration with Café Costa Sites was
recommended, with Thomas serving as liaison.
- Additional 2026 goals include scheduling five presentations, two of which will feature tech
companies, and continuing to explore ride apps and transportation options for seniors.
- SMAC requested that AAA will also report on relevant transportation updates from the MPA
Steering Committee.
